Brothers and Sisters,

As you know, we as membership are always trying to give back to our community throughout the year. This year we are having our 2nd annual Muscular Dystrophy Association ("MDA") “Fill the Boot” event. Last year we raised $5400.00 and hopefully this year we can raise more. As explained below, it should be a small amount of work from you and hopefully provide a large amount of gain for those in need in our city.

IAFF has been a partner with MDA since 1954 and since then firefighters have raised over $608 million for neuromuscular disease services, research, and summer camps. In Northern California, MDA funds helps fund 4 multi-disciplinary care centers at Stanford, UCSF, CPMC Forbes Norris, and UC Davis. Funds from Fill the Boot also help to send over 100 MDA kids ages 6-17 to summer camp every year.

For our 2nd annual event, MDA has committed to directing all funds that we raise to families who are living in Mountain View. The MDA has identified 17 families in Mountain View who will be eligible to receive funds -- the priority is to provide funds to children from Mountain View to attend a one-week summer camp run by MDA. Any additional funds we raise will go to the families in town and/or research at Stanford and UCSF.

The event is going to be on Saturday July 7th from 9am-4pm at the Charleston Shopping Center. We will be inside the shopping center in front of stores such as REI , Chipotle, Starbucks and Best Buy. Our role is to stand with boots collecting cash donations for persons suffering muscular disease who live in Mountain View.

The MDA is providing signage, boots, permitting and food for the day -- so really all we need is for our members to participate. We picked July 7th strategically as it is shift change from "C" to "A". Hopefully this will make it easier for our members to present. "B" shift members, we would ask that you please take the time to come in for some portion of the day. We know that this is short notice being that we are a month out, but this is not asking much of you except to participate for the cause.

Please contact your shift VP's ASAP so we can get a head count for the event and T-shirt sizes. We greatly appreciate your time and support and look forward to a fun day for a great cause.

Thanks,

Steve DeSipio
